
![]() Carlingford saw an invasion, yet again, when Queen Maeve's army marched over the mountain into the village looking for the Brown Bull of Cooley. On the village green the two heroes, Cuchulainn and Ferdia fought it out in front of the army and villagers to much merriment. A far cry from the original event many hundreds of years ago.
The Queen's army had marched from June 6, from Tallanstown through Knockbridge, Dundalk, Ballagan and over Barnavave into the village find the brown bull on Sunday June 10. The period dressed army were led by Queen Maeve in her carriage followed by her warriors, some on horseback, most marching. The village green was ready for the occasion with a feast laid on for everyone, thanks to the Carlingford Arms. A fun pageant took place, reenacted by the Cloud Nine theatre group. The sun shone and the day was declared a great success, and will take place again next yet.
