Norwegian Air International (NAI) is a registered carrier in Ireland and able to avail of the EU-US Open Skies policy. However, US carriers strongly objected to the granting of a license, as did the Irish Airline Pilots Association. Fears that Norwegian would undercut existing airlines and that they would employ low cost pilots and crew from Asia were some of the objections put forward.
Services from Cork are expected to begin within months and expected to cost under €200 each way to Boston. Norwegian already operate low cost Transatlantic flights from Europe to New York, Los Angeles and Oakland San Francisco.
