A lot of people don't know that Dylan Thomas spent a summer in Donegal in 1935. He was only 21 and in need of a recuperative break from his mad life in London. Himself and his agent Geoffrey Grigson arrived in Glenlough in July to stay for two weeks. At the end of the holiday Dylan was enjoying the solitude and working away. He decided to stay on until the end of the summer. Initially he was loving the solitude but eventually it got to him and there is a great docudrama by Peter Alexander that describes the time he spent in Glenlough and how it all began to fall apart. See dylanthomasdonegal.com. Peter takes guided tours to the tumbledown cottage in Glenlough where Dylan spent that summer.
There are lots of events on in Wales this year to celebrate the centenary and you can see what's planned on dylanthomas100.org and literaturewales.org.
